My new pup couldn’t see who I was as I was approaching the garage door the other night. As I put the camera to my face to take a snapshot she started growling at me, must have thought I was the bad guy. After she realized it was me she became overly happily and was cowering slightly liek she was in trouble. It was all too funny.
I’ve never really photographed people before and this was pretty much my first crack at it. Not overly impressed. Bill setup a pretty good workout that day, deadlifts and running. 21 deadlifts, run 1000m, 15 deadlifts, run 1000m, 9 deadlifts, run 1000m. I did the deadlifts at 225lbs And the runs were slow, about 4:50 each.
The Spitfire Saloon hosted their 3rd annual Big Wheel race at the w65th tunnel again. What a great time it was. Adults racing Big Wheel and skateboards while the kids manned the water balloons and squirt guns.

It’s Monday morning and I’m sunburnt, overheating, and still tired from the weekends festivities. I have to say that once again the Shootout was a huge hit and I am looking forward to next years event.
I arrived to Buschur’s late Saturday just in time to meet the rain showers that were coming across the area. Despite the rain, the crowd was rather large this late in the afternoon. There were plenty of new faces and it was a pleasure seeing some of the friendly faces that have become so familiar over the years. Afterward I headed back to the hotels to see what activities were going on. After a while we went for a cruise in Yusuf’s 9 second EVO 2 to get dinner and I must say that fucker pulls hard, even with 4 people weighing it down. After a pretty crappy steak dinner at Longhorn with Grandpa Reichen, Yusuf, Keith Brown, Steve Roque, Gill from Gillstees, Vernon Naidoo, and several of the other Chicago guys we headed over to Motel 6 to meet up with Mike Wohler and a few of the Georgia boys. After finding them hanging out by the pool I was immediately blessed with some of Chris Varner’s tasty Peach flavored Moonshine. I quit drinking damnit, but this was too good to pass up so I allowed myself one small shot of it. After all it’s the DSM Shootout right? We headed back to the Econolodge to see that Shepherd had arrived, finally. The back gate of the trailer was open to reveal a small taste of what so many DSM’ers have been craving, the long awaited reappearance of his race car. There she sat in all her glory nearly finished and ready to race with lights reflecting off her beautiful paint job and impeccable assembly. She’s almost ready to hit the track once again and reset some records. The night went on til 3am or so and was filled with a lot of great conversations from people across the country who I’ve never met yet all shared the same passion and hobby.
8am came all to quick and we were blessed with an absolutely trashed parking lot. After 15 minutes of cleaning up the parking lot was nice and clean and off to the track we go. The classes seemed to be packed and there were a number of really fast cars on the grounds. After first round of qualifying several of the fast cars had to bow out of competition due to various unexpected issues. Upsetting it is but they will all live to fight another day. I ventured over to the auto-x side of the track to take some photos and see the festivities. Seeing this brought back some great memories of the old days of the Shootout. After getting some photos of Dave Sutton’s wicked fast EVO X and seeing David Buschur put the Badbish through some corners on three wheels I headed back over to the drag strip to watch the rest of the days racing. John Shepherd won EVO Eliminator for the third time in a row after running a new best of 9.6@147 using our GT35r turbo kit, not bad for a street car with working air conditioning! The Gamblers race had a number of fast cars in it including a big tired back-halved 4g powered RX7 to the Louisville guys and their three bad ass automatic 1g street cars. The finals came and led to a major upset as the bulbs on the tree took an unexpectedly long time to drop. TPG’s race car took the win as the red 1g from Louisville stalled on the line, I’d guess from a burnt up transmission. This pretty much wrapped up the day, I was beat and ready to go home. We watched the awards presentation and said bye to some good friends. Overall it was a great event and I am guessing record attendance and a record amount of race cars, again. Can’t wait for 2011! Hopefully my car will be done for it…
Thanks again to David Buschur and the guys at Buschur Racing who continue to put this event on every year!
Jim and team at Crossfit 440 installed the prototype brackets of our soon to come Pullup System in their new gym. We’re looking forward to working with the Crossfit 440 team on many of the new products we have on our “Shit To Do List”. If you’re on the east side of Cleveland and looking for a kick ass way to get your ass in shape give Crossfit 440 a call, 440-488-4121.
2010.8.7 – Patrick Flannery had a little get together for his Brutus’s birthday, his dog. A few people brought their dogs over for all of them to play together and play they did. Hours of wrestling, chasing each other, and chasing balls left my dogs tired from a good time. It was a great afternoon hanging with everyone and letting the dogs run about.
John just swapped out his 1.01 exhaust housing on his GT42 for the 1.28. With no changes to the car it picked up 50whp at the same boost and lost approx. 150rpm in spool time. After a few pulls he managed to make 1033hp on what I’d consider a mild tune-up. Unfortunately he ran out of injector and could not turn it up anymore. John’s using our DSM Top Mount manifold, 4.5″ 1g DSM intercooler, and our 1g parachute mount. Congrats bros!
2010.7.26 – Mike revisited the dyno with a new turbo that BW sent him. Needless to say it works. The car made a best of 1127whp at what I would call moderate boost. Eventually he got the boost to about 45psi and about mid pull the Cam Angle Sensor decided to go bad. You can see how much more power the car was making, and at a much earlier RPM.
2010.8.5 – Since I started participating in Crossfit earlier this year I have been getting more and more addicted to it. I feel better than ever before and I’m just getting started. On a whim I ordered some tubing and Dan & I fabbed up some pullup brackets. I think this is just the beginning of what will eventually turn into a complete line up of fabricated fitness products!
2010.8.3 – We headed out to listen to the Primus concert for a little bit and ended up getting detoured after we left Tower City Amphitheater. We came across a great bridge to sneak up on for some pictures of the city but didn’t feel like dealing with Railroad security as they can be dicks at times. We ended up riding around the flats and ended up by the Cargill Salt Mines. Enjoy the pics…
